In-Progress Build Week 8


Art Direction:

  • Updated Art Style (Textures, Landscapes, Models, & Post Processing) Image(s) Attached

The Art Direction have been updated as there have been issues with creating proper textures and blend modes, this have been solved with a simple flat shader art style and removal of ambient occlusion to focus on flat colors and simple shadows. To be fixed is the addition of water system and some materials not being available due to Post Processing, this causes as a distraction.

UI/Menus:

  • Implemented Main Menu (Background, Audio, & Buttons) Image Attached

Interaction System:

  • Finalized Interaction System

The interaction system has gone through issues as I was still going over how player interactions would work, but this came to a close as I was able to create dedicated functions properly. To be fixed is to complete the object blueprints to create things the player can interact with as there is no current objective.

Control Scheme:

  • Updated Control Scheme (Grassylands: Tutorial Level)
  • Grassylands: Tutorial Level Bug

Updated the current control scheme as AWSD and Gamepad movement, but there was a bug with Arrow Keys still being accessible and inverted, this bug has been removed. To be fixed is the addition of UI Overlay telling the player the control scheme in the Grassylands: Tutorial Level to tell players how to play.

Playtester Level:

  • New Play Area (Grassylands: Tutorial Level) Image Attached

This level is the testing grounds of the game throughout the development and this area would be showcased in the builds for playtest. The issue arises where the previous map was large and not setting the theme of what is to come for the game. So, in this build I managed to block-out a dedicated play area that have no interactions currently, but to get the general sense of the sandbox.
